Best of luck. Honestly, you'd do better if you could just get outside of Philly. Some of the suburban districts are infinitely better.

Yeah Philly has gotten really bad. People here have no sense of pride or love for this city. I live in north Philly just look up the videos in you tube on the north Philly ghettos. This is were I live and let me tell you is bad. As a matter of fact that is what people here call it "the bad lands". Some still try to make a difference in their neighborhood but then others come and ruin the little progress that was made. I have special kids and a husband with brain injury and fibromyalgia. We actually decided to go ahead anyway and move to the Tampa area. We will be ok. Life is about taking chances and living it the fullest as you can. We are tired of winters I guess. I've been looking at rentals and they really are not that bad.

Be aware that if you get down here and run into problems the social services are very limited. We've got a large homeless population, much of it due to the usual issues but some of it a result of people coming here with expectations of being able to "make it" and not. Wages are below average and there are a lot of hourly workers ready to step into someone's place if they don't work out.

While I've very familiar with Philadelphia due to work I did with Drexel University and several banks in the area, I can assure you that Tampa has it's fair share of bad areas as well.

I'm just saying that the grass is not always greener, that's all....

Life might be about taking chances but I would think before you move down here. I don't know if you said you had family support or not where you are but I think you need that. my dad moved me and my sister and Mom down here to take an early retirement in the 70s. It was a total disaster. And none of us had the special needs that your family has. He put all his money into buying a laundromat which went under 3 years later. Lost all the money from the sale of our beautiful tri-level house in Michigan we ended up living in a trailer park. I'm not saying trailer parks are bad but after that it was not what we were used to. Thank God my mom sister and I got jobs with the state of Florida. Benefits and retirement were good back then. Not so good now with the schools or the government. I don't mean to sound like Debbie Downer but I'm just being honest. Thank God I do have a pension now. I think you should stay where you're at but move from the nasty area.

Why anyone eats any seafood is beyond me. The oceans are really filthy dirty places. Those fresh caught fish share the water with trash, plastic, other animal waste, human waste, birds poop over it when they fly, etc. Think about it.

There are many "badlands" in Florida, especially in Tampa and Miami, and people call them "badlands" here too. It's not just a Philly thing.

Hey at least you have great pizza, cheesesteaks and bagels. Can't say the same about Florida.

I just had some pink porgies today i caught 110 miles offshore and they were fine as wine. Nothing beats the fish i get offshore and they are only a day old vs sitting on a boat for days and then a store for days ray.
