Were they in a rental car? That's where the huge administrative fees came in. Are you in a situation where you could buy a removable SunPass and then have each guest update their vehicle info and payment details associated with that SunPass? Or you change the vehicle info and later charge them for the toll charges incurred?

Tell them to avoid the Bayway. Problem solved. From Pass-a-Grille there are other ways on and off the islands. It's not like you live in Tierra Verde.

They could go via Treasure Island bridge, seems silly and further but ok, sure. Not trying to avoid tolls (happy to)........ just the large administative $20 fee for one trip seems nasty and unfair.

I just didn't understand why this happens at bayway= there was always a dollar or so in / out no problem to pay.

They don't have to go that far ... St Pete Beach/Pasadena Ave will work. Obviously still out of the way compared to the Bayway.

Don't know why the admin fee is so high. We had a toll-by-mail bill on the Veterans awhile back and the admin fee was nowhere near $20. Not sure if that's just the Bayway authority grabbing money or if it's something from a rental agency. Tell your guests to choose a better rental car agency and/or take advantage of any toll program that the company may have. If it's their own car then I'm pretty sure you do not have to be a Florida resident to sign up for Sunpass. The toll will be less and there won't be any admin fee (altho the transponder costs $5 ... or $20 for the portable one).

Any of those choices seem less drastic than never visiting again.

I think it's just the rental car company's admin fee as I believe toll authority admin fees were all being waved due to the pandemic and the fact that they removed toll workers from the plazas. But the rental car companies have their own admin fees and most have a daily charge for use in addition to each individual toll payment.

Yep, they are the ones profiting from the Visitors, NOT the Florida Infrastructure ..
