I would love to live closer to downtown if possible,BUT want the good schools, of course! We are coming from Seminole county -- all "A" rated schools. Does anyone know if a C rating hurts funding for a school? Also, does anyone know about the gifted program at the middle school levels in Hillborough county? In Seminole, the gifted kids are in a separate building with all gt kids and trained teachers. Is this the same in Hillsborough?

Thanks!

Riverview HS has struggled with overcrowding since it opened, no doubt one of the issues affectinng their rating. My son attended there and we were very pleased with the staff and faculty. A school grade doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad school - I know an elementary in New Tampa that has struggled with a "B" grade since it opened, and that is due to the inability of it to get a large enough gain in the poor performing students - if your poor performing students are in the 80% range, how much more can you get from them?

As for funding, the only thing affecting any funding for school grades is that "A" rated schools get monies based on their enrollment - that's the only thing that affects school finding in the grading system (unless you're an "F" school.)

Gifted is dealt with on a subject area basis. Gifted students are not segregated from the general student population, they just attend gifted subject area courses. For example, a student labelled "gifted" in math and science would have different math and science courses than their general education peers. The rest of their courses would be with the "regular" kids.
