Can anyone tell me....how expensive it is to live near the bay? What areas near or close to the airport are set up with cafes and grocery stores in walking distance? We would look into renting an apartment 1-2 bed or townhome. I want a safe, nice neighborhood. We are willing to spend more on rent......

The housing near the bay are almost always more expensive than the ones that are not.
Oldsmar, for example has several areas that are very close to the Old Tampa bay and which are not excessively expensive. But these are areas near the water, like to have a boat and be able to go from your house. They are not to go swimming, like beaches are.
So, anywhere around here you will find properties close to the water, specially in Pinellas county.

The biggest problem is going to be finding someplace where you can walk to restaurants and grocery stores and be near the bay AND be close to the airport. S. Tampa has a few areas that are near the bay and have restaurants that are walkable. Davis Island is surrounded by water and has restaurants but no big grocery store. There are a few apts off of Westshore that are on the bay with a few restaurants nearby but again no big grocery store. Annie is right there is housing but you probably are not going to find everything you want especially the walkable part. There are places off of Courtney Campbell on the water but only a 7-11 type store but not a lot of restaurants.
