Does anyone who lives in either St. Petersburg or St. Pete Beach know if there is a much of an alternative music scene there?

My definition of "alternative" is music that falls into the punk, goth, rockabilly, college rock, indie genres.

Thanks!

The State Theater, most likely the best place in Tampa Bay metro area for what you are looking for.
Equally good is the Garage across the street from the State Theater on Central Ave, and Jannus Landing. Which is a very cool place to see bands.
These are the best venues in the Tampa bay area period for the music you are talking about.
All 3 are very close to each other.
The Emerald bar is a good bar and the blue Pelican is fun too.
I'm into goth, deathrock, indie, & metal. The Garage plays a lot of metal and the State plays a lot of what you are saying. I will be seeing Exodus & Kreater at the Garage.
But I just saw Sisters of Mercy at Jannus Landing.
Really a good scene believe it or not.

Thanks to both you and tampaguy03 and yeah, if you saw the Sisters there, you do have a nice scene going!

Call me weird, focused or even fixated, but I tend to judge communites by their art and music scenes (or lack thereof). I could definitely hang out there . . .

Well, this is good news. Thanks for asking that Sailor Curt, I was about to ask the same thing.

I'm curious if there is a real solid punk scene? I was in St. Pete a year ago, saw quite a few punks.

My fiance and I are old punkers, thinking of settling in St. Pete eventually. South east FL is getting a little crazy for us old gits.
