My family and I wll be coming down in mid Oct. for vacation. Also on a search for a good investment Condo for Retirement/Vacation. Can't decide which town wouldbe best-Dunedin, Indian Rocks Beach, Trasure Island, St. Pete Beach,Clearwater Beach, Madeira Beach. Any and all advice would be helpful. We like the beach, snorkling, scuba, fishing, bike riding. If you are familiar with the Jersey shore we prefer Strathmere over Wildwood. We summer in Margate but it is getting to crowded. Thanks.

So many options here. Google the names of all the beach towns. Dunedin doesn't have its own beach really, some are more towns than others (like Dunedin/Tarpon) Many dont have enough condos that you can rent out on min 7 day or less rentals, so you could buy some thing you can't pay for with rentals. Best places for 7 day or less buildings with beaches are probably clearwater beach/indianrocks/indianshores/redingtons beaches (careful some parts are more than 90 days lease)/madeira beach/treasure island/st pete beach/isla del sol (no beach here but lots of 7 day rentals on golf course near water and fort de soto beaches).
You can buy at Waterview at Coquina Key - not beach location about 5-10 from downtown st pete - which is nice, gated, can rent 4 x less than 30 day then the rest of the lets have to be min 30 day. Prices starting at $60K for a one bedroom with water view. doesn't necessarily appeal to every vacationer and you def need a car for here. Beaches you can pick up 2/2 for $169K up - some need work at this price of course. I have just done a massive search for some out of country buyers, and found one or two pretty decent ones. All depends on what you want to spend and dont forget beach locations will require higher insurance premiums (though many are in association fees, it means they can be pretty high)
