Wife is in her 50s and is getting her bachelors, with an option for a one-year accelerated masters at the end, in early childhood education (it says K-3). She formerly para-educated and substituted in a middle school for 5 years and also did the same in 1-12, substituting and para work in another school, as well as working with special needs children on occasion, for about 2 years. After working with the older children she only wants to deal with the little ones. She has had other occupations ranging from doing tech-work in a large public library system to working with veterans under the VA system, and a number of shorter, smaller jobs in-between.
She seems to be holding her own with a high B, low A average in college right now. She's noticed that a lot of the positions in her field only prefer a Bachelors. She predicts once she finishes college and gets her credentials she'll only be able to really teach for about 10 years max. She is a little intimidated about the praxis exams. Here where we are, they make you take them before starting your 3rd year of college. Teaching, especially little ones, is still her desire/passion. What advice would you teachers out there in the K-3 field give her?
