Hello everyone,

I am a Canadian citizen and have just received my Masters in elementary education at the University of Niagara University in New York. I would like to teach in the states (particularly Florida), but do not know what the procedures for this would be. Does anyone have any advice or contacts they could provide me with?

Any information you provide would be very much appreciated,

Lisa

Every state has its own licensing procedure, so you'd need to contact the Department of Education (or similar agency) for whatever state you're interested in and find out from them what their requirements are. The website for Florida is located HERE (http://www.fldoe.org/edcert/cert_steps.asp - broken link).

The US State Department would be the source of information regarding visas and other employment issues.

Best of luck!

Most states require some combination of PRAXIS I and II, a distribution of coursework, and documented student teaching experience. I bet that Niagra has to send out student records to various certifying bodies and employers. They might have someone within the administration who can be a good resource for you.
