Does anyone know about Family Watchdog? How accurate the map is? I was shocked to find that there are about as many convicted sexual predators in Murfreesboro as there are in Cathedral City CA!

The map on there is only as good as how well kept the sex offender registry is. Those are the same people that you can find on the registry listed at tn.gov
But there is always a lot of talk of the information not being updated. I don't recall seeing when the stats were updated, but if you look at it from the tn.gov page (you should see the registry link toward the bottom right side), it tells when they last updated. Some say their last address is unknown, so I don't think they would put them on the map.

Both the map and the TN site can help. The map can help you see where they are, as of the last update. Didn't it say there were like 78 or 82 in Murfreesboro? Well, on the TN site, I just counted 103 in Murfreesboro. Some are listed as homeless or unknown address. That must make up the other 20+ that are missing from the map.

Looking over the addresses, that can't be the case. There are only like three or so that are homeless or unknown address. Maybe family watch dog has not updated for a while?

I haven't researched this lately, but I had someone tell me that a lot of these addresses are actually for the jail and not accurate addresses. I don't think there is a very tight system of tracking sexual predators (althought it should be!) and once they leave jail there is not a lot of follow-up on addresses. Again, I can't remember where I heard this but it would be fairly easy to see if the same address (jail) showed up over and over. That might explain a lot of them. My main concern is to make sure that I, or anyone I know, is not living next door to a convicted offender!

Usually it will list the address as the jail or prison if that is where they are.

I also thought they had to stay so far away from schools. On that family watch dog site there is one guy within 1000 ft of an elementary school in Knoxville. I think his said statutory rape, which was probably a teenaget, but still I thought they couldn't be near schools period. And if his address is listed someone should know (the police or his probation officer).

The school this guy was listed near was not a new one. I remember it being around when I was in elementary school.
