Hey Guys!

Im moving down from Detroit in the next couple of months! I just received a job offer from a large builder in the are and don’t know where I will be working yet.

Im getting excited about moving although I don’t know much about the city. Where would a young professional that’s single and 26 want to live. Going out to eat and bars are still a part of my life, being single. Where would be a happening place to live?
Also, what inside about the transportation system do you have?

Thank you so much in advance for the help!

Dave

Default Where are you moving to specifically?

Hi there!

I would say Brentwood, TN is a great place for a young single person. Also West End Avenue in Nashville has a lot of apartments and condominiums. Other places that come to mind are Murfreesboro perhaps, being that it is a college town? I may not be much help, but I wish you good luck in your move

Lots of things in Knoxville for young singles, as it's a college town.

By what major city/town are you talking about? TN is over 550 miles long and about 200 miles wide. Lots of places in between. Give us a major city and we might be able to help you better.

Default Look at areas around Vanderbilt University

Hillsboro Village, West End, even downtown. New loft-style condos being built, and the AAA baseball stadium will be moving downtown in a couple of years, with a whole retail/hotel/condo development planned. I'm excited for you. My hubby (from Detroit BTW ) and I seriously considered moving to Nashville to retire, but we've decided on Huntsville, AL. (Nashville came in 2nd place.) Lots of positive press about Nashville lately; I think you will like it.

Default Detroit to Nashville

Congrates on your new job. It is sad to see what has become of Detroit. I used to live there and it really makes me angry to see what has happened to it. Although not as bad, Nashville has a high crime rate, losing football team and couple of tall buildings. Someone said Brentwood. That is a great choice. Brentwood is just outside Nashville. If you ever make your way through there you will notice that every building in town looks brand new. There is a reason for that. The town is one of the fastest growing in the state and you would enjoy low crime and a booming economy with the nightlife to go with it. Good luck. Maybe Ford and GM will stand up to the unions and take their town back and return it to the paradise it once was.

Default Hillsboro Village

Belcourt theater, lots of great restaurants, bars, and houses with personality. Close to Vandy, Green Hills and Music Row.

I disagree about the suggestion of Brentwood. I can't imagine a single, young person enjoying living there among the $$$ McMansions and the SUV-driving soccer moms. It's suburban hell at its worst. I'd stay closer to downtown if I were you.

That's pretty harsh. Personally, I love Brentwood. It can't be too bad either if it was listed in Money magazine's 2005 Best Places to Live list. I do agree, though, that a young single person probably can't afford to live in Brentwood as the average home price is above $500,000.
