Am so hoping to move to Tn from Ohio this year. Hate the winters here. I have been looking at Knoxville, Maryville, Sevierville but was wondering what about central area in central Tn?? The advantages vs disadvantages. I like rolling hills more than mountains but need to be fairly close to stores but yet out in the country. I will be 60 this year and am by myself so I have to be careful. Is real estate the same in prices? Seems like towards Maryville , Knoxville, etc. prices are really shooting up. I want a couple acres for raising simple animals, gardening, but I also want to be able to shoot and hunt as well. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Are you moving with a job? If you need a job, you do need to stick closer to the big cities like Nashville and Knoxville. If not, why not the Cumberland Plateau? It's between Knoxville and Nashville. The cities of Cookeville and Crossville are right on Interstate 40 and offer quite a few stores and things (particularly Cookeville).

Here are some pictures of the area. Definitely lots of rolling hills. Lots of waterfalls, too. I read on some Chamber of Commerce thing that within 40 miles of Cookeville there are 150 known waterfalls.

Here's Buffalo Valley (west of Cookeville, off I-40):

Gainesboro (just NW of Cookeville):

White County (just south of Cookeville):

What sort of budget do you have in mind for a place? How much land do you want?
