Hello Everyone, I hope that you are all doing well. We are new to this forum, My name is Michelle and my husband’s name is Jesse. We are hoping that some of you can help myself and my family in answering a few questions.

We are Currently living In California and are looking to move somewhere in Tennessee. We have narrowed our choices down to the surrounding areas of Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga. We are a large family and looking to find a good community for our family to grow and thrive. An are wondering if we can get some
pointers.

Our first question or curiosity being which counties are communities are good?

What is the educational systems like in those areas?

We are also wondering (I apologize now if this might sound closed minded or ignorant) how people deal with interracial marriages/couples/families in the areas mentioned. My husband is Indian (from in India) an I am white. We understand that there is Racism all over the U.S.A., but we just want to understand what we might or will be walking into. Is it something that happens often or no more then everywhere else?

Thank you for you help and your input it is greatly appreciated.

I do not know about the areas that you are asking about but can tell you about our family's experience with race in a smaller town with a lot of retirees/transplant from the North East and CA folks.

First, my family is me, retired white female and two 14 year old children who were adopted from Guatemala. Their ethnicity is Maya, an Indian group.

At the lake, in town, at scouts, etc. my family is accepted. Several of my kid's scout friends have said that they love their skin tone and they are jealous because they do not even need to 'tan'.

In this area there are not a lot of different races, but most of the Indian race folks seem to be in the medical field so the kids have been asked if there father is a doctor, likely because of their race/skin tone and the never present (and non-existent) father.

There have been curious folks, but never in a mean way.

BTW, we are from CA too Retired here last May, but have been visiting since 2014.
