I don't know why the April county unemployment rates still haven't been released. However, we can look at the weekly unemployment claims to see what's happening in Tennessee. The good news is that new unemployment claims have been dropping every week since peaking on April 4, and ongoing claims have been dropping since May 9. The bad news is there are still nearly 20 times the number of ongoing unemployment claims than pre-shutdown.

week...new claims...ongoing claims
March 14...2,702...16,342
March 21...39,096...16,098
March 28...94,492...34,570
April 4...116,141...112,438
April 11...74,772...199,910
April 18...68,968...267,053
April 25...43,792...324,543
May 2...37,319...321,571
May 9...29,308...325,095
May 16...28,692...314.487
May 23...26,041...310,126

I was just thinking about unemployment this morning when the national numbers for weekly claims were released. I couldnt understand if the numbers were for new claims or ongoing claims.

If you look at the unemployment numbers at the county level, you will notice the vast majority of those counties with the lowest unemployment rates (relatively speaking, say below 10%) are rural counties with no to little tourism, entertainment, or service-based economy.
