Sorry for the delay in replying to your questions ALML. Just got our first electric bill, an unbelievable $31.00(that's for the whole month), however, we did have to pay a deposit of $330.00 ( which we get back in I believe 1 yr.)
As far as any "surprize costs", none, except that we found that when making a purchase over $1600.00 only that amount is taxed at the 9.5% rate & the remainder there is a fixed amount attached (which I forgot what that amount is). Also, you might like to know, trailers(campers, boat, etc.) do not have to be registered &/or insured in TN, although boats do have to be registered. Lastly, as far as the wait period to have things turned on or hooked up the wait was as follows :
Electric- none just take info to electric co. & they turned on same day
Cable-Called & made appntmt. typical 4 hr window on day of
Gas(cooking)-Unknown becuase we called 2 wks. prior to move in
