Hello, everyone. Yesterday I made a quick visit to Fall Creek Falls State Park. Southern Living magazine has called it the best state park in the southeastern U.S. I especially recommend it to those of you who are newcomers to the Cumberland Plateau region. The scenery is spectacular (doubly so in my case because of the charming lady who accompanied me), and outdoorsy types will be impressed by the quality and abundance of the park's facilities.

I also love the state park. One of my reasons for building a home less the 6 miles away. Nice golf course and great water falls. The water last year was about 60 degrees and great to swim. Everybody around there is real nice.
Can't wait to get back up there this year, my house should be done and my wife and I will be hanging out there.

Fall Creek Falls is a must-see for anyone visiting central/eastern Tennessee. My wife and I visited the area to check out some land and we stayed at the park's lodge. We didn't buy the land, but the lodge is nice and the state park is breathtaking -- way better than any state park I've ever visited, more like a national park. We definitely plan on going back some day.

I grew up in the area and swam and hiked Fall Creek Falls. I love it's swinging bridges. I used to hike beneath the big falls and climb the wire cable beneath Cane Creek Falls. Many years ago there was a cable down the main falls, but it hasn't been used in years. They don't used the natural swimming pool anymore...now they have a municipal...they have one of the best golf courses anywhere...they have horseback riding...camping...swimming...bikeing...an inn...a nature place and on and on. It is truly one of the finest places you would ever want to visit if you like the wilderness. The picture attachments are of the old swimming hole and of Fall Creek Falls itself, the largest waterfalls east of the Rocky Mountains...see you in Spencer, Tennessee --- home of Fall Creek Falls.

Default Tell Me About The Critters

I would like to know about the critters in and around Fall Creek Falls. We stayed there in April. We learned you have to drive carefully through the park at night because of the deer. BEAUTIFUL!

On the flip side, I got a tick on me. What little bugs, ticks, snakes & other critters are in the remote areas? The land we just purchased is 10 miles outside of the park. I want to know what to expect and what precautions we need to take to keep ourselves safe. Would appreciate any information about the local critters, great & small. Thanks.

Talking Fall Creek Falls Inn

We loved the restaurant at Fall Creek Falls Inn. It is the only non-smoking place that we found to eat. The food was good and menu prices were fair. The best part was the staff. They were more than willing to answer any questions about the area. WAY too crowded on a Friday night due to a popular seafood buffet. We were staying at the Inn and found no parking space. But, newcomers to the area need to check it out. I credit these nice people for calming any fears I had about moving to the area someday.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I'll be in this area in August and plan to check out this park.

Default Fall Creek Falls

Welcome to Tennessee, Fullcircle. Use repellent for the insects and keep a sharp lookout for the snakes and you'll be okay. I don't live there, so I'm not sure if there are any bears. Some of the locals may fill us in on that. I do know that it is one of the prettiest areas on earth and I've been to a lot of places. Great people too!

There's no bears in Fall Creek as far as I know. There's been such an influx of animals that I won't say absolutely there is none; we have coyotes and wild turkeys in Metro Nashville now.

I almost had a wild turkey come through my windshield driving through Cheatham County a couple of years ago. Trust me, when you seeing a turkey coming right towards your windshield, it will look like the largest bird in the world.
