Is there any differences in allergies in Knoxville to Nashville area? Considering both but hubby has terrible pollen allergies.

Nashville is in the Basin. I live 65 miles SE so also in The Basin, or as my vet calls it “allergy purgatory”, lol

One of my horses developed environmental allergies after we moved here 19 years ago but I keep him under control without drugs. My dogs have always been fine. I sneeze in ragweed season and DH gets a stuffy nose but we do fine without meds

That said, by choice I live in the toolies, smack in the middle of the “thick of things” that cause allergies. The metro areas of Davidson County (Nashville) may not be as bad.

I have no clue about the Knoxville area

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, only Memphis is considered "worse than average" for allergies.

The lower the number, the worse the allergies.

19. Memphis
35. Knoxville
55. Chattanooga
60. Nashville

Allergies are specific to certain plants. If hubby is allergic to pine pollen, and there are pines growing in Nashville he will be affected. If he is allergic to, say, oak pollen, but there are limited oaks in Nashville, he won't be affected as much.
When I was allergy tested, I tested positive for 45/50 things tested for. I had to pick from the list to decide what I wanted injections for. I think I could only pick 25 - 30 (don't remember exact numbers).
Bermuda grass for instance, lights me up, but does not affect a good friend that has allergies almost as bad as I do.
I suggest hubby get tested, and maybe get on the injections. It really helped me a lot. I started out getting shots in both arms twice a week. Now Im at once a month to six weeks.

That’s a revelation where Nashville is concerned. They’ve cleaned their allergy act up since this 2017 Tennessean article.

Even in that one (2016 rankings), Knoxville is still ranked worse than Nashville for allergies:

2. Memphis
9. Knoxville
23. Chattanooga
29. Nashville

Even in my old age, I am always getting my eyes opened, lol.

I agree with @Barkingspider, the OP’s husband should get tested for various pollens before making a decision, if he’s that miserable.

I grew up with a kid whose reaction to ragweed was beyond horrible. He would get on the school bus with his eyes swelled shut. His family ran a 300 acre dairy farm so every day was “all hands on deck”. I don’t know what meds were available back in the early-mid 60’s, but nothing helped if he was on anything.

So yes, allergy testing should be a must before moving

Vanderbilt has their own ASAP Clinic - Asthma, Sinus and Allergy Program, since allergies are so bad here. I've suffered since I've moved here.
