Because they already take 6.5% out of our paychecks for the government pension plan... so hopefully we don't have to pay SS & Medicare tax on top of that!!!

I was a state worker for 5 years back in the 90s--in dept of HHS--
we paid into state pension plan and into SS and Medicare
state workers I believe still have the option if they retire with enough years of taking state health insurance coverage into retirement
I went back into teaching after leaving the state job--way too much stress--even more than teaching which is saying a lot--
and transferred my state pension contributions over to the TRS to add yrs of service to my teacher pension--totally legal--
but when I apply for SS pension the amount I would be entitled to for those contributions is going to be prorated/reduced by some of the teacher pension I receive...
now BOTH of them I worked to earn--and BOTH of them I paid into with deductions during those working years--
yet I won't get my full SS pension I have earned--because I also had second job as teacher and get pension from that...
totally unfair but a legislation rule the SS admin and the govt will NEVER change because it would cost them money...

Bascially you need to loo at practices that teahcers did to do thei along with others that decied not to enetr SS lon gao as a unit. You basically get for the years you actually re i the system. Its like aloowing those withi to stop SS payments when they get the necessary quraters on puirpoase. It was abuse by some that started when they got a certain age then started paying. There are police and firefuighters that decided the same long ago.

that is very difficult to translate

AND teachers did not have the option-- it was their districts that decided that and the state of TX--
so don't blame teachers for something they have no control over
some districts in TX do pay into both SS and teacher retirement system but most don't
there are are very few that pay only into SS
