Aside from the garages being in the back, I grew up in a neighborhood fairly similar to that in the show, with the 70s-era, 3/2 ranch-style homes. I can't say I've ever seen people hanging out just drinking beer like that. Usually there has to be some sort of pretense, even if it is just having a random cookout.
I live in Richardson and I've never seen people drinking beer in front of or in the alley behind their properties. Ever.

I'm more of a fan of backyard drinking, myself.

Save for the alleys my neighborhood in Cedar Park is very similar to King of the Hill.

It always makes me think of Mesquite. However, I also see lots of similarities in Arlen and the neighborhood I grew up in, in Duncanville. Only difference is that the people hanging out, drinking beer were my dad and his buddies, and they were all white collar business execs.

I just never understood hanging out in the alley drinking beer. Maybe it's just me.

The other day I was standing in my driveway talking with my neighbor, standing in his driveway, talking about something, and the oncor truck drove down the alley, saw us and acknoledged us as he went by. And then he drove by again, coming back down the alley about 30 minutes later. I'd hate to think what went through his mind. I know what went trough mine - a scene from King of the Hill. At least we weren't standing there just drinking beer.

What's wrong with drinking out front or back of your house with friends and neighbors? I've known people to do it in every neighborhood I've lived in.
