"could have absurd and dangerous consequences."

What, exactly, are the "dangerous" consequences of a car having no license plate? A license plate is not a safety device---it is a tax receipt.

Are these the same lawmakers who made all Marriages null and void a couple of years ago? Talk about Dangerous.

So some lawmakers overlooked or whatever a law, big deal...

Like other states lawmakers don't have their fair share of stupidity.

Nothing like Texas haters making mountains out of molehills...

Get a life

Actually it could be a safety device in relation to crimes being committed i.e. car jackings, bank robberies, amber alerts, etc.

How many amber alerts have there been in Texas in the past ten years? How many of the children were found because of a license plate?

How many bank robberies are deterred by the law that requires them to have a license plate on the car? Just take it off for a few minutes (or cover it with a fake one), rob the bank, speed away, put it back on.

The new plates are nearly useless for that purpose anyway. A person with normal eyesight can read the old plate number from nearly twice the distance as the new ones. If reading the plate worked as a crime deterrent, the police would never let the DMV put those silly new things on cars.

Try it yourself, in a parking lot. Walk toward a car with a new plate, and when you can read the number, see how many paces it takes to reach the car. Then do the same thing with a car with an old plate. It's not as bad now with the lighter blue-gray sky, after somebody whacked them up aside the head with a rolled up newspaper and told them you can't read black numbers against a dark blue sky.

Apparently, the cops aren't any better at recognizing plates than the rest of us.

Texas has a law on the books which prohibits a custom license plate frame from obscuring any part of the word Texas. If your frame even touches Texas, you can be fined.

Think about this logically. A cop stops you for something. If you have an out of state tag, the law won't apply to you since it only pertains to the word Texas on our plates. But, if you have a Texas tag, does the cop HAVE to see the word Texas to recognize our plates? Why? Doesn't he know what our plates look like anyhow? If part of the word Texas is hidden behind the frame, will he not recognize it?

This is a law but something I don't see enforced that often. I drove around years with custom Harley plate covers on my Harley Edition F150 and never heard a word about it...despite being pulled over a dozen or more times in a half dozen Texan Towns. Including by Sheriff's Deputies, State Troopers, and local PDs...plus one Collehe Campus Cop. Hey, the truck was Supercharged and more fun at higher speeds
