Several years back Lake Travis was said to be the most dangerous lake in Texas, but I have been told that is no longer true. And that the title is now held by Lake Lewisville. However, a web search turns up several sights claiming that Lake Lewisville is not longer the most dangerous lake.

So where is it?

that is the one getting in the news but I live in DFW area--lots of drunk people piloting boats, boating accidents, boats running over people in the water--
if there is one worse than Lewisville it must be pretty bad...

Unfortunately, that's a common scenario on MANY lakes today where the public has boat launch access. Lake Travis has long been one of the busiest with uncontrolled boat speeds, etc. Add scuba divers, wind and kite surfers, etc. to the mix and accidents are just waiting to happen.

I would guess that Lake Lewisville would be right up there at the top due to boat traffic. Now if you're talking about dangerous, as in dealing with the governing bodies that run the lake - Lake Athens takes the award hands down. Those crooks all need to be in prison; they'll steal people blind to make a buck for them and their friends.

I'd guess maybe since it's so easy to get lost there. And gators, of course. But I've always considered it to be one of the most beautiful places in Texas. A close friend of ours has a place there, and a local nature preserve is named after her parents.

By whom? There are gators in Lake Lewisville as well as Lake Tawakoni and in many other lakes in Texas.

As for the most dangerous lake due to PEOPLE I'd have to go with Lake Lewisville.
