and what i meant by saying that northeast isn't swampy is that most of the area is hardwood forests, and more hilly. so you think about animals like deer and even black bears and cougars...compared to a lot of southeast texas which is more flat, soupy, and marsh-like. the type of area you'd think gators would only be found
FYI, there ARE gators in the lakes in North Texas. One was spotted in Lake Ray Hubbard last summer right by our friends house. A gator was killed on our property down at Lake Tawakoni a few years ago. We saw a gator while riding our Seadoo's on Lake Lewisville a few years ago. Just because the water/lakes are not "swamps" does not mean that they are not home to alligators. Do a quick search and you should find plenty of news articles about gator sightings on area lakes up here. Even when gators were spotted in a small "lake" behind a Dallas high school several years ago I believe it was the Texas Parks & Wildlife folks that told on the news that it is VERY COMMON for them to be in these parts.

okay, did i not just say i didn't know alligators were in northern texas? evidently i know that now. but like i said before, i'm sure when most people think gators, they think of more coastal, swampy areas further south

Caddo Lake is such a fascinating place that when you visit, you can't help but wonder about the various creatures in the water. I do know, as others have already stated that there are alligators in the lake but that won't stop folks from going out to fish, etc. I would rank Lake Lewisville, though as probably the most dangerous lake overall because of the sheer amount of boating and drinking that occur, coupled with the numerous people that frequent the lake during the warmer months which is most of the year in north Texas

Yeah that Lake Lewisville is something else, a traffic jam from Dallas to Denton.

I have done internet searches trying to find out who does the rankings on which lakes are the most dangerous. All I can find is statements like this one, without any real supporting references or documentation. Several websites seem to suggest that Lewisville Lake is no longer the most dangerous, but that may be nothing more then boosterism at work.

For a number of years Lewisville Lake was ranked the most dangerous lake in Texas due to the number of accidents and fatalities which occurred.

Lake Lewisville used to have its lion's share of bad press through the years because of so many fatality accidents. Not the kind of legend you'd like on a lake. Whether it was the most dangerous lake in Texas, well, I honestly don't know, but it had been the most dangerous in the Metroplex for many years.

That is pretty amazing that it can survive the winters there, given that they are cold blooded.

The web site says that they occasionally eat each other.

An alligator brain weights only 8.4 grams, a squirrel's brain is almost as big. They are not too smart. Brain Facts and Figures
