I currently live in Oregon, and there's absolutely nothing here (Portland is hopeless otherwise I'd move there). I would prefer an actuarial job, since that's what I've been working towards. Though at this point, I'm willing to take any entry-level financial analyst/underwriter/etc. position. I'm leaning towards SLC right now, but would Dallas/Houston/Austin/San Antonio be better?

Dallas area is a hub for financial, insurance companies, with more insurance companies moving in. Looks like a fit for you

You would be able to find that type of job in any of the big cities. Dallas may be a better option for career advancement, due to the number finance and insurance companies. State Farm is a major employer with a large campus in Richardson.

Houston is where you need to go, it's an engineering city where facts and laws of nature matter. Dallas is more a business and style/fashion city than Houston. Facts and analytics matter less in Dallas.....

An engineering city where facts and laws of nature matter??

This is about as ridiculous as when people say Houston is more "working class" than Dallas.
