We are bought a place in RSR and will be living there full time. Does anyone else stay there year round? This is definitely the most rural place I have lived!
What is the best Internet provider? Does anyone have success with a cell phone antenna for reception? Will my dog be safe...are there a lot of snakes?
We fell in love with the area, but now I am a little nervous about being so remote!

Howdy, and welcome to Roaring Springs Ranch (RSR).
We don't live there full time yet, but try to get out there every 2 or 3 weeks. Congrats on your purchase. What lot do you own? We have a cabin on Lot # 76 and also own #77.
There are several people who live there full time. The best way to get internet is through Southwest Texas Telephone Co. in Rocksprings. If you don't already have a landline out there, the cost of getting one is pretty pricey. We have a Wilson cell booster at our cabin and it works off and on. If you don't have AT&T you are completely out of luck cell wise. Rattlesnakes....... RSR is in Texas, so you can be assured that there are some, but I personally have not seen any, although I did see a picture of a really big one up on the Ridge. I think our low number of rattlers is because we have a lot of big Blue Indigo snakes to keep them in check. I have never heard a coyote at RSR, so your dog should be safe if you don't just let him run free all the time. We do have mountain lions, bobcats, foxes, aoudad sheep, whitetails, a few axis deer and some big porcupines. Drop me an email at richter17@hotmail.com and I will be glad to give you more info. if you wish.
We call RSR our little piece of heaven.
Regards,
Ron

Welcome TaHo!

We just finished building a cabin in RSR and plan on getting out there as much as possible. Work requires me to be in Houston but that part of Texas is what we consider paradise. Retirement (long way off yet) will have us out there full time to get away from the concrete jungle.

I would say to live out there permanently requires you to be pretty independent (mentally and physically). Like any other place, you will meet people in RSR when you are out and about around the park or lake. Every person I met so far has been nice and helpfull - a good trait to have when you are in such a 'rural' place.

We dont have a land phone - we use a signal booster like rwr which allows us to use ATT mobile (phone and data) while in the cabin. Mobile reception is very limited and is dependent on where you are in RSR.

Havent seen any snakes yet and hope to avoid that first sting from a scopion.

Hope to see you there.

Darrell
