For those of you who think the future of Oil & Gas is bleak read this analysis from Patti Domm of CNBC.com

"America's unexpected transformation into the world's biggest natural gas producer and one of the globe's largest oil producers will give the U.S. more geopolitical clout on the world stage—including in key relationships with China, Russia and the Middle East.
By 2020, the U.S. is likely to be energy independent, along with Canada, its biggest import and export partner. Add to that a new boom expected from a reforming energy industry in Mexico, and North America will more than hold its own as a powerhouse in the global energy market.

The ripple, however, will be increasingly felt across the world. In the next several years, the European Union could be importing U.S. gas—and possibly even oil, if current laws change—lessening Russia's stranglehold on the European economy."

Energy in the future: Rising oil and gas production gives US more geopolitical clout

It appears , at least according to this analyst, that the American O&G revolution will focus more American power on the world stage. How do you suppose this increase in power will affect Houston in the years to come ?

Why can't we talk about this possible upside to Houston's position in the O & G industry in the Houston forum ? How many threads have there been in this forum about all the negative implications of the image and price of oil ?

It seems to me that if this analysis comes to fruition Houston will rival the financial centers of the western world in prestige and influence. And yes it is current events, in that these milestones are predicted to be achieved in the near future. Such as energy independence, leading oil exporter replacing OPEC and Russia as the main suppliers of energy to Europe and China. These will be world changing events and Houston will be at the epicenter of this change, how can this not have a positive effect on our city?

Apparently some people think there is doom and gloom in o&g.

I can't show relief or joy when gas is below $2.50 a gallon. Else I hear some o&g guy is in fear of losing his job.

As long as we talk about O&G in Houston, I will leave this thread here. But if you guys want to talk about the O&G industry in general, then the thread will be moved to more appropriate forum.

Personally not worried. We have expanded past Texas and past using water for fracs.

The technology that is bringing the U.S. into energy independence was developed in Houston, maybe we should all say thank you George Mitchell , not only for the O&G revolution but for the MPC evolution as well......
