Hi. I currently live in the suburbs of NJ and commute by bus to NY for work. I'm a graphic designer and make a measly $38,000 a year ($2,400 a month after taxes) and cannot afford a damn thing nearby.

My goal is to move to Texas by early 2017. I have a lot of important people in this state.

Specifically, I want to live in Irving, and work in either Dallas, Forth Worth, or Arlington (or Irving if that's even a reality).

Can someone help me out with these few questions? :

1. What salary can I expect as a mid-level graphic designer in these areas?
2. With the above salary, can I afford to live on my own in Irving or any of the other cities?
3. How safe and accessible are these areas?
4. Would it be better to just live in one of these cities (if I get the job there)?

My only major expense is student loans. Otherwise, I really don't spend a lot of money a month, I don't drink or go out, I'm energy-conscious, and I don't want to live in luxury, just something affordable.

I already know the places are a car culture, and that's fine by me. I own a car and the bus commute to NY is unbearable, anyway. I just really need to get away from NJ and NY. It's too expensive. I want to live lol thanks.

Hi. I'm an Irving guy.
Irving is generally safe and definitely affordable as a mid-level graphic designer. I can't help you with salary expectations in your industry, but you should *absolutely* be able to afford to live on your own depending on how well you budget.

I wrote this up a bit ago, it may be useful. In the meantime, as you get closer to reloc'ing, please feel free to hit me up for advice in case there's any legwork I can do for you.

Relocating to DFW/North Texas? Check Irving out.

That is amazing, thank you so much. I will definitely keep you in mind as the year comes closer and options become more concrete! Thanks again.
