What was your experience in the Rio Grande Valley as an outsider?

We tried & tried to like it--we went there with a positive attitude. Built a beautiful custom home there. We made tons of money there--but the place sucked the absolute souls from us. My husband and I both have never been so glad to leave a place.

Interesting.. Why did it suck the souls from you if you don't mind me asking? Was it the clash of cultures?

Not at all. We previously lived on the border in El Paso--and half our family is Mexican. There was no "clash of cultures", if you are referring to the fact that the area is primarily Hispanic.

What was soul sucking was the constant racism, rude and pushy "Winter Texans", isolation, lack of fine entertainment and restaurants, lack of "culture" such as museums & art, etc. Having to catch a plane or drive 5 hours for a pleasant evening gets old very quickly.

Some people obviously like it there. Just not us.
