My finance is black and I'm white and we have three kids together, he got offered a job on the oil field and we have been talking about moving to Midland but I've heard that they don't like mixed couples or families there or any part of Texas, is this true?

Hmmm. I'm not very familiar with Midland and the culture out there. But what I do know is; you'd generally be better off in the large cities to minimize prejudice over mixed families. Getting away from the large cities tends to lead to more narrow-minded attitudes. The same thing happens in other states too, so this is hardly a TX matter.

I've found the western part of the US to be much worse in this area. It's like an extra layer of small-minded thinking added on. The western part of TX tends to be like CO, AZ, WY, etc. in it's culture for race.

How about oil field work near Dallas or Houston? Maybe even Huntsville, though it's smaller.

I reached out to some cousins that actually live there.....they doubt sincerely that you'll have any issues, as it's MUCH more common there now than it was 20 years ago thanks in large part to all the oil field workers that have located there.

There are no oil fields near Dallas, Houston or Huntsville. The oilfields are located in West Texas, near Midland and Odessa. Midland is one of the largest cities in Texas, and the OP will be fine as a mixed race couple there. Attitudes about this issue have changed a lot in recent years.

One example is an oil field in SE Houston, along I-45 near Clear Lake Blvd. I've seen maps showing oil field lands in a number of areas of Texas, including the east and NE side of the state.

Those oil fields are very small and old, and there is no new exploration there. That means there are very few, if any, jobs there. The oilfield jobs that pay the big money are in the Permian Basin.

There are scattered oil and gas locations throughout the state but by far the most activity is out in west Texas around Midland. BY FAR.

And the OP and her fiance should be fine in Midland.

Don't forget Eagle Ford. At its time, the largest play in the history of TX.

You are correct. It's in the southwest part of Texas from San Antonio to Laredo. Still not Dallas or Houston, but not quite Midland either.
