Texas has 5 of the 6 spots in this list of housing tenure (homeowners not moving) which is kinda remarkable. The increase from 2010 to 2019 is pretty steep too. The article mentioned that in the case of Texas this may be helped by the option to defer property taxes once over age 65.

I haven't looked at the number of people that actually file for deferral. I found a few pieces of data :

In any case, the Texas economy is doing pretty good right now, which keeps people from having to move. Also, 2010 may be a 'low water mark' for tenure, for all I know. The type of stories do tend to try and cherry pick time periods to make it more dramatic.
