Famous Actors You Probably Didn't Know Came from West Texas

Some of the most talented actors in television and movies came from the dusty plains of West Texas. From the days of silent movies to the blockbuster films of today the area has always been a prolific producer of some of the best actors, directors and producers.

I knew some of them were from West Texas (like Jimmy Dean, Woody Harrelson, Jessica Simpson, Tommy Lee Jones, Dan Blocker, Powers Booth and Fess Parker) but some of these (like Kathy Bates, surprised me, although it shouldn't, the accent is there).

Fun to see lists like this.

You are right! I always think of Mac Davis as a singer but he did do some acting and even had his own variety show for a brief time. I remember him well in North Dallas Forty.

Should we consider Lou Dobbs an actor? Maybe he is, i dunno. :-)

In any case, it's an interesting list. I didn't see Matthew McConaughey, who is from Uvalde.

Do you mean Kathy Baker? Kathy Bates is southern, but she was born and raised in Memphis, TN.

You are correct. I have moved Lou Dobbs to another list. When I listed him as an actor I had just started building this list and I was getting a little desperate because I had only found a handful of actors from West Texas. I'm still working on the Actors list and hope to get it up to 100 this year. Matthew McConaughey is on my list to investigate and gather biographical information.
