I was there in March.

The museum is not dynamic or interactive at all. Whether it's worth the drive depends heavily on how much you would like walking around the perimeter of old WWII planes in various states of restoration. Floorspace-wise, the museum mainly consists of a large collection of planes, mostly from that era, in some huge, well-lighted and air-conditioned warehouses.

There's also an art gallery with a few dozen very nice paintings depicting aircraft in flight and a Texas aircraft/airline/pilot hall-of-fame with memorabilia displays for each member.

One of my sons and I liked it OK. Neither of us are pilots, but we like art, airplanes and history. Mrs. Bowie and my other son, who don't share those interests, were bored there.

I did not even know that that was there, fallguy. Look, why don't you couple that with a trip to Moody Gardens, shop at the Strand, take in some sun at Stewart Beach, and have some seafood at the many fine seafood places they have there (Gaido's, Casey's, Fisherman's Wharf)?? Then you can hop back to Houston for an exciting Astros game (okay, I'm an Astros fan -- just wanted to throw that in ). You'll want to book a hotel in advance if you're planning to go to Galveston. It's a hot ticket.

Shoot, the whole dang island will be worth your trip from Dallas. And mine, too. I'll be there in June. Been there many times.

Don't forget the Cathedral-Basilica and the Bishop's Palace too!

Agreed. If something's right there, why travel an ungodly distance when you can save some gasoline? After all, it's probably going to reach ten dollars a gallon before we die!

Actually, fallguy opened up a can of worms for me, Spree. I'll be in Galveston in about seven weeks, and I'll be spending about three days and nights there, so this does give me an idea when I get there.

The scary part is, I think we've benefited one another and didn't know it.
