Looking to buy in TEMPLE, TX, primarily because it’s the most affordable and still fairly decent and safe in that whole area of Texas. Prices and demand are insane, even as far out as Temple. What are safer areas for a single woman to buy in Temple. Realtors really can’t say what’s a good and what’s a bad neighborhood so I don’t get much input. Would really appreciate some neighborhood recommendations for a moderate price home in would appreciate you opinions on the more desirable neighborhoods. Don’t want Killeen or even Harker Heights.

What is your definition of "moderate price" and what size home are you looking for? I would buy on the newer western side of Temple along the border with Belton. Or in Belton itself for that matter, if you want newer suburban "safer" neighborhoods.

So, for example, out here, which is in Temple but zoned to the Belton School District: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1...86611105_zpid/

I've not spent a ton of time there....just passing though so I don't have alot of personal opinions.

I have known a few people from Temple who wouldn't move back if you paid them.

That seems to be different from the people I know from Georgetown or New Braunfels which are similar in size, same general region but the people I know from those areas love their home towns and would raise their kids there or at least rave about how it was a great place to grow up.

Nicest thing I've heard about Temple from an ex-resident...."It isn't THAT bad, we arn't Killeen."

Living in Waco for over a decade I would say that Temple didn't have the best reputation frankly. People looking to move to that area and who had the means to be picky would tend to move to Belton instead. It has higher rated schools and seems to be a more upscale and prosperous place.

It is nicer than Killeen, but that's a pretty low bar to meet.

As someone who is familiar with Temple I would highly recommend the west or south part of town. Chandler Creek and Alta Vista are good neighborhood options to look into.

I would also add that Temple does have a higher than national crime rate but as stated it is better than Killeen. With that said, the city is experiencing a housing boom with lots construction everywhere.

I drove through on SH 93 yesterday (south side of town) and noticed numerous upscale new residential going in. Even a couple fair-sized gated communities.

Killeen is terrible.

The only good thing about the town is that no mater what direction you leave town from, the next city over is an improvement.
