WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Tuesday, Aug. 22, the Republican-controlled Texas Supreme Court effectively allowed Senate Bill 1750 — a law that eliminates the appointed election administrator position in Texas counties with a population of 3.5 million or more — to go into effect on Sept. 1 ahead of the November 2023 election.

Harris County, which is the state’s most populous and diverse county, is the only county in Texas to which the law applies. Enacted in June, S.B. 1750 transfers election administration responsibilities from the bipartisan election administrator back to the county clerk and county tax assessor, both of whom are elected officials.

Today’s decision from the Texas Supreme Court was issued on the heels of a lower court ruling issued last week that temporarily blocked the takeover of Harris County’s election administration. The ruling came as part of a lawsuit brought by Harris County alleging that the law violates the Texas Constitution, which prohibits the Legislature from passing certain “special or local laws” that regulate county affairs, including elections. In last week’s lower court order, the judge sided with the county, holding that S.B. 1750 law likely violates the Texas Constitution.
On a related note, Texas State Supreme Court elections are next year. Be sure to remember this when you vote.

Once again .. Republicans and their laws that only apply to some people
We don't want those "big government laws" to apply to everybody

The fact that people aren't rioting in the streets tells me that our democracy is probably done, at least in Texas. People are settling into one-party rule. Sometimes I wonder why I bother fighting.

So silly…this is reverting to the county clerk managing elections which is how it was always done until 2 years ago.

There is no “takeover” of Jack.

It will have to work its way to the Supreme Court.

Not to mention the 2022 Houston elections were an unmitigated third world level disaster. Elections are never perfect but many polling places running out of paper ballots on top of numerous technical failures isn't reasonable. As many as 15,000 were turned away.

People should have rioted about that.

Ok,
why not set the same law for all the counties?
Every county in Texas with population under 3.5 million is going to have an election administrator

We aren't provided with the right to riot or to even "protest." What we do have a right to do is peacefully assemble or campaign. At one time, the only campaigns that existed were military. The King didn't need to campaign as he owned all the land including the streets and sidewalks which were needed for the people themselves to campaign. There is no room to riot as people needing public access in order to express their rights will be denied.

The unseen hammer hidden under the table by the state of Texas is clear evidence that the county of Harris interfered in the elections. They are prepared to go to court.

My riot comment was a satirical response to someone a post of two above my comment who called for riots per the TX-SC decision.

Further various cities across the US have allowed rioting on and off for a couple of years.
