Never heard anyone talk about it, never saw any commercials or poster advertising. Nothing.

Fiesta on the otherhand dominate the airways, people talk about it all year and plan for the next year. People from SA who moved away seem to come back regularly for fiesta. There are radio promotions. University Campuses, such as St Mary's host events like the Fiesta Oyster Bake. It's just a massive event for SA. I think it is a bigger deal than Mardi Gras is for Galveston or even the fair is for Dallas. To be honest, I hated how it interrupted my life because of the scale.

SA rodeo may get a lot of attendees, but it just doesn't get anywhere near the attention that Fiesta does

Pretty sure the SA rodeo does have all of these things. Regardless, Houston’s rodeo is 2x or 3x the size so of course it’s gonna magnify everything.

I agree. I can’t imagine not hearing about it though but I guess that just shows my friend group lol

The Texas state fair is the same weekend as the Red river shoot out right?

Well it sounds like you are from there so you have the advantage of knowing the city. I was just there for school. No reason to hear about the rodeo.

Fiesta on the otherhand is a whole nother beast.
SA shut down sh!+ for Fiesta. SA ISD shuts down for the battle of flowers, government offices shuts down, it's a huge event for the city that you just can't escape.

The SA rodeo is no where near disruptive.
Different class of festivals.

The Houston Rodeo is less disruptive than Fiesta, but it is in the same weight class as Fiesta because it is so huge and everybody and their mama talk about it.

Those two in my opinion are the biggest signature Texan festivals while SxSW is probably the most well known festival from Texas, although not distinctively Texan.

Yeah the Red River Shootout and the Fair are usually around the same time Octoberish

That's fair enough and I can agree with that. SXSW is pretty unrecognizable now compared to how it first started out. Even when I first went back in 08.

I've never heard of it but I don't live in San Antonio. I'm going to have to look it up now. Is it like Mardi Gras, around the Lenten season?

Fiesta is the big deal in San Antonio. Like Houston 's rodeo, there are multiple events at multiple locations and everyone in the city has at least heard of it.

San Antonio's Stock Show & Rodeo is not much smaller than Houston's, both attract over 2 million in annual attendance based on pre-pandemic stats. As far as Rodeos they are both in the same league. Fiesta is the largest festival in Texas drawing 3.5 million in attendance at its 100 plus events.

SXSW is not really a major draw as far as an attendance standpoint compared to the other big Texas festivals but it is more internationally known and has an internet audience that makes it a premiere festival for Texas.
