Crosby is another small town - doesnt seem like a suburb. Houston - horrible traffic and pollution but things to do. If you get a chance go see the coast as far down as you can go - lots of nice ducks this time of year.

Crosby used to be a sleepy little burg a little more than ten miles out from Houston but is probly experiencing excessive commuter growth by now.

It's probly fairly flat, being so near the coast but would have nice prairie grasses and trees... oaks and pines. Along with snakes, rats and roaches... big ones that fly.

It's near Lynchburg where you can take the ferry (dunno, if it's still there) over to the San Jacinto Monument and Battleship Texas. The San Jacinto Monument marks the final battle ground for Texas independence. But don't let 'em fool ya. The armies retreated back towards Harrisburg (now Houston) but couldn't get across Buffalo Bayou due to the Texians burning down Vince's Bridge, very near the Washburn Tunnel. If you go on top of the Washburn Tunnel, from the Pasadena side, there is a monument that marks the 'Approximate site of the capture of Santa Anna'.

To get atop the tunnel, you have take the 'circle' at the approach but instead of going into the tunnel, you take a break off on the right that goes on top. The historical people won't tell you about that.

Both the Ferry and the tunnel were heavily damaged by Ike and are still closed right now. Expect the tunnel to be back open in next few weeks but the ferry will take a bit longer.

As for Crosby. It is located about 20 mi NE of downtown Houston off of Hwy 90 and is starting to see a good bit of growth. I imagine that will speed up once Hwy 90 is complete to the downtown area. It a farming community with a few small industrial plants. The biggest item farmed is turf grass, so the area appears very green. It is part of the coastal prairie but has some nice trees near the San Jacinto River and Lake Houston. The nearest big shopping areas are Baytown and Humble. The shopping in Channelview along Beltway 8 has come a long way...but no malls yet.
