I may be moving to McAllen later this year. I am gay and was wondering if they accept gay in McAllen? How well are they tolerating with gay people?

helps to know your age, but there is a lot of gay folk aged 16-30 i would say. they party really hard.

south padre island plays host to Splash, which is the biggest gay party south of san antonio.

I would imagine if you are AA it might not be the most comfortable environment.

Default Moving as Well

I too am going to most likely be moving to the Rio Grande valley. The company I work for is opening a facility in Harlingen but was told McAllen may be a better environment.

^ Depends a lot. I've met some people who go to UTPA and are from up North (they're friends with my friends) and some will say they absolutely love McAllen and others will say they hate it (but LOVE Padre). You can't really know I guess until you go there and see for yourself.

McAllen's probably more tolerable to gay than most other cities in the Valley, maybe edinburg or harlingen are okay too. West of Mcallen, past La Joya may not be, but i don't notice it too much like they were about 10 years ago.
