Considering growing an acre of Blanc de Blanc after talking to the owner of Tara Vineyards up in Athens. Anyone in NE Texas tried this yet? He said it was apretty resistant strain.

I'm just trying to grow some in my backyard. So far, it's working. We've got baby grapes on one vine. I don't remember what kind they are though

I'd suggest you google the T V Munson Viticology Research Center in Denison TX (that's NE Texas)....they are doing good work there and have for many years. They can advise you about varieties that do well in various areas. The Homestead Winery in Ivanhoe TX is doing well...they have a store and restaurant in downtown Denison.

Grapevine (appropriately named) here in the DFW metroplex has a large vineyard and has been making wine for years.

I grew them in West Texas. The sand and arid area seem to be fine. Do you have sand or clay on your place? I would think that would be a major factor.

All sand. I tried to have fishing pond built, but it tested up to 15 feet of sand.......and the liner is just way to expensive.

I have TONS of wild grapes growing all over the place. I think I'll be ok, it's just the mildew I'm concerned about. Hopefully putting it on a hill will help with the drainage. I have tons of hills from 3-75 degree grades.

depends on your soil and weather...and the type of grape
contact the center for info about what grapes work best in that area and maybe they will do soil sample for you
our nephew owns land west of Austin and he is planning on putting in vinyard to get the ag tax relief since they don't require a lot of daily care--he lives in Leander and drives to his place about once a week or less...
