My husband is on flight to a job interview in Sulphur Springs, Texas. I'm not sure if I'm going or not. I live in California and I love it here but my parents are about six hrs away. Is it humid there? What are the schools like? I'm not sure if I want to go but I might not have a choice. Is there a junior college nearby? Do they have a Church of Christ there? I'd appreciate anything. Thanks!!!!

Sulphur Springs is a very nice small town. Like the rest of the eastern half of Texas, it is humid, which combined with the summer heat can be uncomfortable.

I don't know much about the school system. I can tell you that there is a small campus of the Paris Junior College located in Sulphur Springs, and a larger, four-year university (Texas A&M University-Commerce) in the next county.

There is a Church of Christ in Sulphur Springs, and evangelical Christianity is the predominant faith in town.

The downtown area has several small shops and restaurants. There's a new steakhouse opening there this year - ciboVino. It's owned by the same people who own ciboVino Italian in Winnsboro, which is worth driving from Dallas for.

Speaking of Winnsboro, that's another nice town that you can explore in the area.

Default Rentals

What is the average for a three bedroom rental? Are there any areas to avoid?

SS is right on the interstate so it's not far to Big D. The public schools have a good rating (you can check Texas Education Agency website for their accountability rating). TX A&M-Commerce is just a few minutes away (degrees thru the doctorate in many fields)....you'll be eligible for in-state tuition in one year - and TX tuition is very cheap compared to most states. The Church of Christ is very common in this whole area -there are probably several congregations there....I'm surprised it is in California, altho Pepperdine is CC supported, isn't it.

Hi, GayleTX

An elder of my church taught at Pepperdine. Supported, I don't know. But it is Christian. I believe there are four CC in my county alone. Yes, we are in California. Thank you for that info!

I really don't know the city well enough to know rental costs or places to avoid, but I know that real estate costs in Sulphur Springs are generally low.

My former employer was based in SS--it's a nice town. Very spread out! Everyone I knew that lived there said it's a typical small town, though--everyone knows your business. I could not stand to live there, but it was always nice to visit a few times a year.

The landscape is certainly very pretty!

Default Husband got the job!

My husband called me today and said he got the job. There's a few kinks that he has to work out about the salary and move. I've gone research online and Sulphur Springs seems like a nice place. I'm a big church goer and was wondering if there is a good Church of Christ there? Thanks!
