Does anyone know the average salary a LPN/LVN makes in Texas? Particularly in the Dallas area? Im considering moving to Dallas from Memphis. I know it depends on experience. I have 7 years experience with 4 of those years in nurse management. Ive been told the pay rate is much higher in Texas than in Tennessee. Anyone with info on this subject please advise. Thanks

Can't speak of LVN salaries directly. I am a long time RN with ICU experience. Our hospital does use LVN's in Med/Surg and telemetry units but your management experience would play no role there. Can't speak to the market in DFW. Nor can I speak to pay scales in smaller hospitals , nursing homes, or home health agencies where the utilization of LVN's are much more prevalent. What I can say is larger metro areas tend to have generally higher pay scales. In the RN market pay scales fluctuate wildly from region to region and even from facility to facility. My suggestion would be to at least make some phone contacts with several HR departments and test the market. That would provide much more accurate information than anecdotal responses on a discussion board.

Most of the big hospitals in DFW are Magnet, so they no longer employ LVNs. (The one I work for is one of these.)

Nursing homes will hire LVNs, but they don't pay well. Even with 7 years' experience, you will be lucky to get $25 hourly.

The only place that a LVN can be "management" is in a nursing home, and even then, its still a shady practice and is borderline illegal. The Fair Labor Standards Act specifically says that a LVN cannot hold an exempt-paid position. U.S. Department of Labor - Wage and Hour Division (WHD) - Fact Sheet
