Are there any legitimate stormchasers here? Has anyone here ever been on a paid tornado chase? Growing up in Tornado Alley, I was fascinated by twisters. I've moved somewhere with much more docile weather now, however.

Recently I was watching a feature on tornadoes which followed both thrillseekers, scientists, and tour guides tracking a storm system through Oklahoma. I was amazed by the number of stormchasing vehicles on the roads in most of the camera shots, as well as the close calls had by the tours. It actually seemed like a bit of a circus. Is that really the case? Does anyone have an opinion on carrying a vanload of tourists on a tornado chase for profit as opposed to following storms for research purposes?
