Looking for some advice (strange that) on recruiters in the GTA. I am currently a senior unix engineer (linux/solaris) and just taking a role as an infrastructure designer for a major telco. I have emailed a few recruiters (7 so far) and only 1 has bothered to reply.
Am I expecting too much from Toronto recruiters? Am I better off waiting till I am there?
I am also considering basing myself in Mississauga. It looks like a suburban area with larger housing and yards (I have a 3 bedroom house, double garage, 1200 sqm section to play on). From what I have already read, it seems a bit of a task to commute (public or privately) from Mississauga into Toronto CBD (I am assuming this is were the vast majority of work would be for my kind of job).
Markham is a very similar community to Mississauga if you want a suburb with a large yard etc. Markham is also considered the technology capital of Canada, so you may have better luck finding work in this area. ATI, Apple, IBM and others have their Canadian HQ in Markham.
Keep after the recruiters -- you have nothing to lose.
As far as where you wish to live, perhaps you should base that on where you find employment so as to keep the commute manageable. If you set up shop in Mississauga (west of Toronto) and then got a job on the east side of the city, it might not be very convenient.
