i have a conference on Front street at the Fairmont Royal York and want to know are there other nice but less expensive hotels in the area.
Also, what airline services toronto? I would like to use South West, but cannot find that city. How far by train from NJ?

Toronto Pearson Airport Airlines

NJ is quite far.. Try a generic site like travelocity, orbitz expedia . They'll show you some of the connections you can put together from where you live.

Its 500 miles from Newark to Toronto which sounds like a lengthy ride in a train, i'd suggest getting the best deal you can on an airline that flies direct to Toronto, then take a shuttle or taxi to your hotel..

Definitely fly. As for the hotel, google "Strathcona hotel Toronto". It's cheaper and right beside the Royal York.

You might also try booking your hotel online through many of the discount services like Priceline.com as an example..

Fly Porter from Newark to the Toronto Island Airport. By far the best option especially if you are staying downtown. They run promotions monthly for a percentage off typically.

Fly, or drive. If you drive from Northern NJ you should make it in about 9 hours. Train would take much longer.

I can answer both but choose to answer one cause I havn't booked to many flights on orbita by my self or others, I always use a trvel agency and let them do the booking. One thing I can comment on is I love the T.O. Delta chelsea unless it has change it has five restraunts and plenty of things going on in the hotel. The are also cozy rooms I recommend a suite though, and the price is not bad at all especially in the summer when they give discounts in the winter usually around $180.

Another vote for Porter Air. They have a free shuttle bus from the Toronto Island Airport to the Fairmont / Union Station area. They have a 30% promotion right now as well.
