We can probably purchase a house for about $400,000 if taxes are reasonable. We could go higher if the location is just right.

Thanks for the recommendation!
There's not many houses in that price even in the areas you wouldn't want to be in, you could probably get a condo though.

Yes, I believe we will be buying a condo. Toronto does appear to be going through a similar boom that affected Chicago a few short years ago when prices far out ran the ability for the people and the economy to support the prices (speculation). But for now, it appears that there are buyers who are willing to pay $500 - $800 / square foot. So I will be monitoring the market closely.

Toronto has had a very strong housing market since the last crash they had in about 1989 (I was a realtor there for 18 years). I figured the so called bubble would have burst by now but it doesn't look like it's going to happen any time soon. Check this out:

Toronto Beaches Real Estate
Technically it's called 'The Beach' (I used to live there) - it's a great spot but I'm not sure about getting a condo for $400,000 there....it may be doable if the OP is not too fussy!

When i lived in the area back in the mid 70's i never heard the area called anything but the beaches, but i guess times change and i'll refer to it in the future as the beach.

It is a topic of great debate. I used to call it 'the beaches' at one point too but it is 'the beach' according to the long time residents.
