I am moving to Toronto from Kitchener on Oct. 1. I have an appointment with a general surgeon in Kitchener to have my gallbladder looked at in October. (I've got gallstones and they might have to take the thing out.) Since I'll already be in Toronto then, I'd like to have a Toronto doctor look at it instead. My family doctor in Kitchener doesn't have any contacts in Toronto, so they said I have to find a specialist myself and then call the family doctor back to get a referral. I know this is a relatively simple surgery that many surgeons can do, but I don't know how to go about finding an appropriate person in Toronto. The College of Physicians and Surgeons website just lumps all general surgeons together, so you can't tell who does what kind of procedures.

Does anyone know the name of a doctor in Toronto, especially central Toronto, who does that kind of surgery or how I can find one?

Any tips on finding a family doctor in Toronto would be appreciated too. They don't let you use the provincial government's doctor-finder service unless you unregister with your previous family doctor, and I don't want to cut ties with her until I move.

Thanks.

A family member had it done at Scarborough Grace hospital and was very happy with the surgery. It was done by a specialist that does very little else but gall bladder surgeries but I do not know the doctor's name.

A quick google suggests that it may have been: Dr. Allan Abramovitch - Toronto, ON Doctor Ratings | RateMDs.com

Surgeons are always people of few words. It's always good to know something about the process going in so you can ask intelligent questions.
