The train can be good, especially when there's inclement weather forecast getting through the Carolinas, but it would be more expensive than renting a car for the trip, most likely -- depending upon the car chosen and duration of trip. The people whom I know who use the Auto Train do so when commuting between houses in Florida and NY or DC. The reason they take the train is that they can pack the car with stuff, despite leaving a car in Florida, but then for interim trips, they fly.
The only thing the OP needs to watch, along portions of I-95, should they decide to drive their own car, or a retal, is the speed. There are some regular speed enforcement zones, especially in Southern Virginia and the Carolinas.

Thank you all for your replies. I ended up driving my Rav4 for the trip with 4 adults 1 child , two big suitcases and tons other suffs. It was fun no problems whatsoever. It clocked 2300 miles round trip.
Why even ask. Only 37k miles on a toyota that's built in Japan? My 01 camry (J vin #) has 174,000 miles on the clock and I don't think twice about driving from S Fla to Pa and back.
Is there another issue I'm missing here?
