Not making it a Toyota vs. Ford, just pointing out that Toyotas aren't the only vehicles having problems with Sudden Acceleration. Many on here don't seem to grasp that.
As I have posted before, my 1982 Ford Mustang 5.0GT with the 4 speed manual got stuck on me. It was very easy to just throw it in neutral and pull of the road. I simply lubed the throttle cable with some WD40 and it it fixed it.
Calm down, ok? If your car every does take off suddenly all you have to do is push the shifter into neutral. That is it. It has been on the news to do this too. Your families safety is not in jeopardy. I have heard the cell phone calls of the people who died, and it was their fault for not knowing how to drive.
Yes, what boggles my mind is that the people who were in the accidents (resulting in 16 deaths) were too stupid to figure this out. A little common sense appears to be in order.

What's to grasp? It has no bearing on this discussion, which is about Toyota's acceleration problem. I'm sure back in 2002 there was a discussion on Ford's problem, what's the point of re-discussing it 8 years later?

Perhaps they were too distracted by yacking on their cell phones
Are you kidding me? A 60 horsepower pile of sh$t is basically harmless if the accelerator sticks, especially with a manual transmission. The newer Toyota's with 270 horsepower and an automatic are MUCH more deadly with an inexperienced driver faced with unintended acceleration.
It happens to a small degree in quite a few cars. I was researching C5 Corvette's a few years back and found that the first few years had the same issue.
This still doesn't make Toyota look any better. What really irks me is that if they weren't made to, Toyota would still be selling the affected vehicles without any regard for their safety.
Pinting out other cases of sudden acceleration, doesn't make Toyota look any better. Maybe if they did walk around with their noses stuck up in the air for years claiming to be perfect, people would be a bit more forgiving.
