Hmm, wealthy man is sick of his family and wants to "disappear" so he calls the kidnappers and has himself abducted and never comes home again. How convenient! Or the family has no idea what's going on and the stress causes someone to have a heart attack. When can I sign up?
Pass. The real thing is not my cup of tea and the simulated one to me is rather offensive as well as pointless. You are hardly experiencing what it's like to be kidnapped if you know your life is not truly in danger.
It also trivialises the experience of those who gone through it for real. It would be like a simulated death camp. Grossly offensive and completely stupid.
Basically for people who have a little too much money and lack the imagination or energy to do something productive with their lives and travels.
There have been cases of travelers being kidnapped in Yemen, and treated as nicely as the conditions would allow. Yemeni villagers used the kidnappings to get their own government's attention to their demands for better infrastructure. The kidnap victims befriended their captors, became lifelong pals, and some still keep in touch by email.
