I live in Cincy, OH. I like to go out of town for NYE, the last 3 years i've got to South Padre Island, TX, Jacksonville, FL, and San Antonio, TX. Obviously i like to go somewhere warm, but stay in the US because of the price over the New Year. Flight prices dictate where we go to a certain extent, but dont want to limit our options either. Was thinking LA, San Diego, Gulf Coast (Alabama, Mississippi), and New Orleans could be possible for this year. Anyone have any comments or other recommendations?

Thanks!

G Man

I once spent NYE in a motel in Salt Lake City, Utah. I would not recommend it unless you want to go to bed at 9 oclock.

If you like football maybe consider the phoenix metro ... have the insight bowl on Dec 30th, the fiesta bowl on Jan 2nd and the seahawks/cardinals on Jan 1st

plus there is usually a lot of related events going on that tie in the games and NYE

Yeah the NYE Block Party they have in Tempe is a pretty big event, they've got lots of stuff associated with it like the football games, concerts, and fireworks over the lake. Plus not many places in the country can match the weather that time of year.

Another warm weather option is Vegas, we've done that one and its pretty neat they close The Strip to cars so fills with people then fireworks are shot off the roofs of the casinos at midnight, it is quite spectacular.

Thanks for the replies. I've considered Phoenix area - ive been there multiple times and i usually go in March for Spring Training because i'm a big baseball fan and my hometown Reds have moved their camp out there. Because i plan to be there in March 2012 again, i kinda want to avoid it for NYE even though Tempe is a great place to be for the reasons stated.

Vegas was one i thought about. I love being near the beach but its been a few years since ive been to LV and my gf has never been so its a definately possibility depending on flight prices. Thats cool that they close the strip down to cars. I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks again for the ideas!!

San Diego has NYE celebrations, including a family-friendly (no alcohol) one in Escondido. And it has beaches. The water is cold, though, and the weather is not cold but also not beach-warm.

I was there last year and i'll be returning this year for sure. From what i saw, there wasnt a lot in Goodyear yet, we didnt even stay close to the park. Suggestions would be great.

Thanks for the other post about SD. Ive been there once and loved it, definately on the list. Its just flight prices over NYE have kept me closer east.

I probably wouldn't stay too close to the park either ... but there are some neat little places to eat and a lot will depend on what you are looking for.

I would probably lean towards westgate or the arrowhead mall area - would be very close to not only goodyear ballpark, but also camelback ranch, peoria sports complex, surprise stadium and maryvale

A little bit more on the entertainment side as well off the 101 freeway

there is a lot though in the SW Valley from food, to drink, hiking, golf, etc
