Actually, Somalia is not a bad idea, but Mogadishu would be troublesome right at the moment, due to a lot of roadblocks and problems getting a visa.
Travelers are going regularly to Hargeisa, in North Somaliland, and the transport and infrastructure is working fairly normally. You can fly into Djibouti, and get a visa there and take a bus to Hargeisa. Somalis are pretty nice people, and are warmly hospitable to anyone willing to make the adventure.

I did say it jokingly, but I heard that outside of mogadishu there are actually a lot of good places to see. I would actually opt for travel to Africa over most of Southeast Asia to be honest
