Prior to stopping cars on the SI Ferry to Manhattan (9/11/01), I would take the ferry into the city (Manhattan) and a tunnel to either Brooklyn or NJ to go where I needed to go. It made many of friends really understand my bridge phobia to learn that I would take a 1.5 to 2 hour trip to get to Ft. Hamilton in Brooklyn rather than bop across the bridge (I can see Ft. Hamilton from here) which is about 15 minutes across the bridge. They stopped inviting me to visit and instead they come to me.
My husband is incredible. He has seen me reduced to tears or in pain from muscle spasms from worry about crossing a bridge. Those other drivers are insane - and I don't relish flying through space when they knock me and my car off. I cannot fall off a tunnel.

City Island is little inhabited island up in the Bronx, out in Long Island Sound. It's a neat little place, but it's not a borough.
Personally, I love the VZ. The view of Manhattan is just marvelous. Then again, I love the Big Apple.
