Do not move to San Diego, I just moved away from there and it's lovely to visit but dismal to live there. I once thought like you to use it as a spring board to LA, but it didn't work out due to a few things. You end up being 3-4 hours away from LA (by car or by train) when you really just want to be in LA to be able to go to the multiple cool things that happen on weeknights or the weekend.

The culture there in SD is, in my opinion, MORE vacuous than LA. And the "culture" is not very good. Even though there is a gay area near downtown and the beach towns are more liberal, San Diego county has a big redneck contingent on the east side that really drags it down. In my opinion. But the jobs situation is the one that really killed SD for me. EVERYBODY moves to San Diego because of the weather (it's commonly called the sunshine tax) and so many people are out there because it's so nice that they will accept any job that pays anything. So competition for jobs is fierce. The cost of living is high and the traffic is almost as bad as LA because they did not plan for that many people to be living there, so why not just go to LA?

I would try NYC, if I were you, then think about LA in the future.

And yes, paragraphs and line-breaks are your friends. Please use them!
